| One thing that can be tempting, but can later lead to computer repair problems due to compatibility issues is beta programs. Beta programs are new versions of a program that are still in the test phase. The companies release these to the public in hopes that they will come across errors in the program that they can then fix before the final release. Even though some beta programs work fine, some will have conflicts and cause issues with other programs. One beta program that I used frequently was Windows Defender from Microsoft before Vista was out. It was a beta security scanner for the upcoming Windows Vista. When I used the Internet explorer 7 beta, it had issues causing Norton anti-spam not to work. I have heard of other programs that didn't function well under Internet explorer 7 beta as well. I just used Internet explorer 6 until I.E. 7 was ready to go. Then there weren't be any compatibility issues. I would just always recommend that when you look at a beta program that you make sure it will be easy to roll back to the old version if you encounter any compatibility issues. |
